Abaloparatide

- FDA approvedApproved by the U.S. FDA for at least one medical use.
Mechanism of Action
Abaloparatide activates the PTH1 receptor with a preference for a receptor conformation that produces a short burst of signaling. Daily intermittent dosing stimulates bone-forming osteoblasts more than bone-resorbing osteoclasts, increasing bone density.
Typical Dosage (Research)
Prescription-only medicine. Dosing is set by a physician according to the FDA-approved label and the condition being treated.
Side Effects & Risks
Dizziness, nausea, headache, palpitations, fast heart rate and raised calcium in the urine.
Orthostatic hypotension around the time of injection, high blood calcium and kidney stones. Osteosarcoma was seen in rats; total lifetime use beyond two years is generally not recommended.
Who Uses Abaloparatide
Postmenopausal women and men with osteoporosis at high risk of fracture.
